What Is The Need For KMA?

Successful individuals and families are used to challenges, but maybe not like these:

  • “I want to make a difference and leave a legacy, but where do I start?”

  • “I’ve sold my business – now what?”

  • “What is it about us that’s so changed the children?”

  • “How can I decide the right structure without disempowering my youngest son?”

  • “Practically, I have everything I need except purpose”

  • “I thought that wealth was supposed to bring you security – I have never felt so insecure”

These would tax a genius problem-solver. They’re certainly beyond the remit of wealth managers, lawyers, accountants and most family offices.

We’ve over 30 years’ experience as management consultants, business strategists, turnaround CEOs, communications consultants, HR and wellbeing professionals, coaches and mentors working at Board level plc and family-owned businesses in the UK and internationally. During that time, we’ve gained unique insights into the family dynamics of wealth and have a deep understanding of the challenges and opportunities that arise. There is very little we haven’t seen or dealt with before.

Some words about us

KMA was founded by business partners Kedge Martin and Catherine Carleton-Smith.
Together they lead an experienced, accomplished and multifaceted team.

Kedge Martin

After an early career as a researcher to a MEP and his public affairs business, followed by management consultancy, Kedge went on to build and sell her first business (in newly liberated Poland) in the late 1990s. Returning to the UK, Kedge focused on ‘making a difference’, creating WellChild (now the UK’s leading charity for chronically ill children) before going on to lead the turnaround of Prince Harry’s African charity, Sentebale and advising various members of the Royal Family on philanthropy.

For the past decade, Kedge has been working with international and multi-generational UHNW families and first-generation entrepreneurs, helping them manage and formulate sol
utions to highly confidential and sensitive ‘people’ issues, along with the complex challenges and opportunities that significant wealth can bring.

Catherine Carleton-Smith

Catherine started her career in advertising, working initially at Lowe Howard-Spink before moving to Ogilvy & Mather for a further 10 years, where she became a Board Director. Her clients were primarily government departments, including the Department of Health, the Department for Business and the Department for Education.

She then spent 10 years as a Partner at Lillingston Events, creating and organising events for primarily UHNW private clients both domestically and internationally, before setting up her own company in a similar field.

Her interest in providing strategic advice, mixed with pragmatism and a desire to support change for both individuals and organisations, led to her training as a leadership and executive coach. She joined forces with Kedge in 2018.
